Ohio Players - Ecstasy
Released in 1973 on the cusp of Ohio Players’ explosion across the airwaves, Ecstasy capitalized on the success of their previous hit “Funky Worm” and catapulted the group towards stardom. The album’s musical mix of funk, soul, and joyous creativity brought a brilliant sensibility to the forefront.
Like the albums Pain and Pleasure before it, Ecstasy featured provocative cover art, a showcase for the group’s distinctly risqué persona. Eyed by major record labels on their fire-fueled rise to fame, Ohio Players would leave Westbound soon after this release and sign with Mercury – where their track “Love Rollercoaster” would elevate them to funk legends.
