Ahnnu
Couch

Label: Dogtropic / Culture Dealer
Release Date: Nov-12-2013

Couch becomes a magical ride right away, glowing with an old spirit that allows the overtones to drip and unfold in so many unusual yet natural sounding shapes. Some sequences sound like the changing of an FM radio dial pre 80 s while other sections have that heavy Madlib organic beat feel that rides out for minutes at a time. From back to front, Couch becomes larger than any one song and truly reveals how much of a process it is from the first song to the last. ItÕs one of those feel good albums with all of the sample work from so many pockets of society. With tons of processed samples over elegant beat work and a voyage into a psychedelic atmospheric ride of found sounds, Couch is as laced with a sense of experimental beats as it is with the textural existentialism that producers like Odd Nosdam, DJ Nobody, Dan the Automator and many others brought to hip hop. Ahnnu twists and manipulates a sea of sound that is endless in scope and tonal shifts and has produced one of the best experimental sample heavy beat albums I have heard all year. The samples and production will blow your mind on this one if you love dirty and dusty experimental music with that instantaneous state of head nodding reactions. If you are looking for something of the future with the trailing cultural essence of raw 90 s sample and beat work, thereÕs no way you canÕt love this album.
