Calliope - EP

Label: Alpha Pup Records
Release Date: Feb-28-2012

Taking its name from the steam whistle instrument popular at circuses in the 19th century, Calliope is the debut release from new Alpha Pup artist Dot and represents the first beats that the young producer has ever made.

20 year-old Dot is an opera singer who comes from a background of composition and is one of the few female players in the game. On Calliope she delivers a fun, dark romp through a psychedelic carnival of sound. Elephants on LSD rumble across the tracks and distorted faces peek out from the high notes in a musical funhouse of sorts, where deviant freaks are running the show and the cotton candy will kill you.

Title track "Calliope" became an early favorite at Low End Theory for its demented spin on carousel swag, while "Freakshow" drops in with a dubstep hook that could plunge whole warehouses into violent ecstasy. "Simple Simon" dives into a swirling headspace, a colorful track that ends the release wrapped up in a circus tent like a body bag.
